Tierion News (TNT)

Tierion's mission is to provide a global “proof engine” for the Internet using their open source Chainpoint technology, which allows anyone to generate proof of when data was created and whether or not it has ever been tampered with. This proof engine, dubbed The Tierion Network,  aims to be a universal platform for data verification that operates at global scale.

Tierion Network Maintenance What Should Nodes Do Now?

Tierion's representation of their network this past week

On September, 24th 2017 it was announced that the Tierion Network had a successful launch. So successful in fact, that the entire network was overwhelmed with the development of thousands upon thousands of nodes (10,000 to be more exact), all of which essentially immobilized the further operation and development of the network.

Furthermore, the network was the target of a "hash  attack" if we could call it that, in which the intent was clearly to limit the amount of eligible nodes for reward. This combined with the stress of the nodes on the Tierion cores, made life difficult for everyone. So what does this mean for nodes?

Me struggling with some errors.

Wayne Vaughan, CEO of Tierion, made an update today that outlines what they are currently going through as a business and what node operators should expect in the coming days:

  • Nodes must have a unique IP to register. Nodes can no longer register with a domain name.
  • Nodes must run the most current version of the software to be eligible for rewards.
  • Nodes automatically receive enough credits to submit the maximum number of hashes to Core per day. This model will remain active until further notice. At this time, there is no need to convert TNT to credits.
  • Rewards will be turned off this week. Node operators should upgrade their software to the latest version.
  • Rewards will be reduced to 500 TNT per thirty minute reward period once back online.
  • The minimum required balance per Node will be 5,000 TNT.

Our Recommendation to TNT Holders

As someone with TNT, as well as Nodes, here are my recommendations to everyone:

  1. If you have a node running, turn it off. We need to let the Tierion team work on their product, and the fastest way to accomplish this is to stop bogging them down. Plus, we currently receive no rewards this week, so no one wins if we keep them running.
  2. If you were running a farm, it's time to pack your bags. Farming is not supported by the Tierion team and it doesn't appear like it will be based on the current economic changes.
  3. HODL: I believe weak hands will regret leaving, as Tierion isn't going anywhere. That said, this is clearly a long term investment, so I'd make your decision based on your immediate financial priorities and interests.
  4. Stay in the loop, check Telegram each day for updates, as well as watch out for the weekly write up by Wayne on Medium. There will be many interesting changes over the coming weeks, including a new community hub.
  5. Lastly, expect an increase in server system requirements, many people received memory errors at the minimum specifications, which isnt good for earning rewards or the stability of the network. I'd expect to upgrade to:
    1. 1GB RAM - 30GB SSD - Static Public IPv4 - 1 CPU Core
